Spike Lee's, Do the Right Thing, was a well written and well spoken film. The film was set in Brooklyn New York, in the Black neighborhood, on the hottest day of the summer. The films message explains the tensions between Multiple elasticities in a Black Neighborhood called, Bed-stuy. This is what caught my attention, as the hottest day of the summer got hotter, so did the situation. Im sure Spike Lee made it the hottest day for a reason, to help express the anger and frustration everyone was experiencing, from the Koreans opening fruit stands, whites moving into the neighborhood, and Italians refusing to place any kind of Black Idols in their pizzeria. One particular Pizzeria that stood out, was "Sal's famous Pizzeria" which has been in bed-stuy for some time now. Sal refuses to leave because of his pride for his food and reputation. But Buggin out notices one day that Sal has no Black Idols in his wall of fame, all of them Italians, and begins to complain. Sal suggests that he get his own place and told him to leave. Buggin out recruits Radio Raheem into his Boycott Riot and storm into Sal's Pizzeria, His the Radio Blasting. Sal never acted too kindly to either one of them, and out of frustration, he called them the "N" word, which resulted in a riot with not just Buggin out and Raheem, But sal's customers as well. As the cops came to break the riot up, one of the cops "accidentally" strangled Raheem to death. I can not be sure whether or not the cop did it on purpose or because he let his racial judgment get the better of him. Soon after, Sal's Famous Pizzeria was burnt down.
In the end, I dont believe anyone had done the right thing, and thats exactly what Spike Lee is telling us! No one did the right thing, which ended with the death of a Neighbor and the people's favorite Pizzeria gone. If at least one of the people, responsible for the cause, did the right thing, the ending would have been drastically different obviously.
